The eggnog is a drink that has become essential to making any Christmas party even better.
Eggnog is best served chilled. However, you heat it in the microwave oven, it will taste just as good. This can be a powerful drink if alcohol is added. If you do not moderate yourself, the consequences will suddenly sneak up on you as it tastes so good and goes down oh so easily. You won't know you had too much until much later.
Ingredients:
1 cup of milk
1 large egg
1 tablespoon of sugar
¼ teaspoon of vanilla
a pinch of grated nutmeg
Optional: Add an ounce of your favourite alcohol. You can use spiced rum or Amaretto but brandy or whiskey will do as well.
Combine everything (except the alcohol) in a large bowl, pouring and measuring as you add everything. Then blend everything together with a handheld blender to introduce air into the mixture.
To make the eggnog more rich and creamy, try to introduce as much air as possible. The eggnog will double in volume which is you will need a large bowl. You can also use a standard blender if you do not have a handheld blender, blending on high until the volume is doubled.
When the mixture has reached the consistency you want, slowly pour in the alcohol if you choose so and mix. Allow some time for the mixture to incorporate the alcohol.
Let the eggnog cool to room temperature before pouring it into a glass to enjoy. Alternatively, you can chill the eggnog in the fridge after it has cooled. If you like it warm, just heat it in the microwave oven.
